CHENNAI: A student of SRM University hailing from Tirupur allegedly committed suicide in the college hostel on Saturday evening.
According to college officials, P Logesh, a first- year nano-technology student, was found hanging from the ceiling fan. The college registrar said that Logesh initially joined the course in 2015-2016 but had to discontinue after he met with an accident. He rejoined the course as a first-year student this year but had taken one-month leave before the puja holidays and returned to the university.

Logesh was a resident of room number 329 along with two other students, Akhil and Vijay Bhasker in Kaari Hostel, the registrar said. “We came to know (about suicide) only on Monday morning. His friends kept knocking and banging the door and when he didn’t open it, they noticed through the ventilator that his body was hanging from the fan. He was depressed probably but we do not know the reason for his depression,” he added.
Police said that the student had met with an accident this year as well. His body was taken to the Chengalpet Hospital for postmortem.
The Estate officer of the university said that the family of the deceased had been informed.
