Special team at CMBT seizes eight private buses

CHENNAI: In a bid to prevent fleecing of commuters during the long weekend the State Transport Department constituted 11 special teams in Chennai to keep tabs on private bus operators.
A team at Chennai Moffusil Bus Terminus (CMBT) seized eight omni buses after it was found that they did not have license to operate in Tamil Nadu and also did not pay taxes.

According to transport officials, 11 special teams, each in CMBT, Chennai Central, Egmore, Poonamallee, Tambaram, Redhills and ECR were constituted by the State Transport Commissioner Dayanand Kataria.
Each team is headed by regional transport officer. The team will also check if the buses have valid certificate, whether the tax was paid, has fitness certificate and emergency exit door, etc.

K Palanisamy, a Regional Transport Officer one of the head of a team at CMBT said in the last two days eight private omni buses were seized after found they did not have temporary permit license to ply in Tamil Nadu. Also, they did not pay tax to enter the state. These buses were registered in other states. The buses were handed over to the police.

D Madavan the other RTO at CMBT and Motor Vehicle Inspectors M Jaya Ganesh, A Rajamani, V Sakthivel and D Sivaraj were on inspection in and around CMBT.
