Punish those making Pongal restricted holiday: DMK

CHENNAI: The principal opposition DMK, on Tuesday asked the Union Government to punish those officials responsible for including Pongal in the list of restricted holidays.

While welcoming the Centre's announcement to include Pongal in the closed holidays list, DMK working president MK Stalin said departmental action should be initiated against those officials responsible for removing Pongal from the closed holidays list.

According to him, the Centre accepting the recommendations of the coordination committee of the employees to bring Pongal in the restricted holidays list showed its utter disregard for the sentiments of the Tamils.

Meanwhile, the DMK had called off the demonstration to be held on January 11 to protest the inclusion of Pongal as a restricted holiday.
