Prank goes awry, youth killed following drunken brawl

CHENNAI:  New Washermenpet Police on Friday apprehended three persons, including two juveniles, in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old man after a prank went wrong. Police identified the victim as S Ajay (23) of Ayya Kovil Street in Manali New Town, who had criminal cases against him. 

According to sources, Ajay was consuming liquor with five of his friends, including two juveniles, at tsunami quarters in New Washermenpet on Thursday night. When Ajay was about to leave in the early hours on Friday, he started looking for his bag, which his friends had hidden.

When Ajay was searching for it, his friends started teasing him. An irate Ajay hit his friends, which led to a fight. His friends stabbed Ajay to death and fled the spot.

Based on a complaint from Ajay’s wife, police arrested Jeeva, 21, of New Washermenpet and secured two juveniles.
