Patient dies at Kalaignar Centenary Super Speciality Hospital, kin allege medical negligence

A senior doctor at the hospital said the patient was diagnosed with renal failure and severe pancreatitis, inflammation of the pancreas and that he was brought to the hospital in critical condition.

CHENNAI: A 31-year-old man from Kundrathur who was admitted with complaints of stomach pain at the Kalaignar Centenary Super Speciality Hospital, Guindy died on Friday morning.

The patient's kin alleged medical negligence.

According to a relative of the deceased, Vignesh, the victim, was admitted to the hospital on November 13 but was later moved him to the normal ward.

"No doctor came and checked on the condition of the patient from then. They didn't even check the vitals of the patient. On Thursday night, he developed breathing difficulty. He was rushed to the emergency ward, and was intubated through the nose and throat. But they didn't do anything after that," a relative of the deceased told media.

A senior doctor at the hospital said the patient was diagnosed with renal failure and severe pancreatitis, inflammation of the pancreas and that he was brought to the hospital in critical condition.

“He had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital before coming here. The doctors managed him at the Emergency Department. He was on ventilator support. There is no medical negligence as claimed by the patient's relatives."

The doctor also said that the full medical reports of the patient had been sent to the government. Further investigations are on.
