Four hijack luxury car over money dispute, held in Chennai

A special police team arrested the suspects late on Wednesday and recovered the luxury car. Inquiries revealed that Karthik, who is into buying and selling used automobiles, had a financial dispute with the BMW car’s owner.

CHENNAI: An automobile dealer and three others were arrested on Wednesday and remanded in judicial custody on Thursday for allegedly hijacking a luxury car over a financial dispute near St Thomas Mount the previous night. Besides recovering the stolen vehicle, the police impounded another car, allegedly used in the crime.

After being told by his uncle, who runs a workshop in Kolathur, Abhikash (21) of Anna Nagar was on Tuesday night driving down to Nanganallur to deliver a BMW car back to its owner after service.

En route, Karthik (41), Sankar (51), Prasad (40) and his younger brother Ramachandran (38) stopped Abhikash, assaulted him and forced him out of the car before driving away in it. Based on Abhikash’s complaint, St Thomas Mount police registered a case.

He conspired with the three others to forcibly take possession of the vehicle, the police said.
