NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior leader and ex-journalist Ashish Khetan on Saturday said that he has got a death threat from right wing groups. Khetan has written a letter to Home Minister Rajnath Singh asking him to take necessary action.

Khetan, in his letter to home minister said that on Friday he got a death threat letter at his office. “I received a threatening letter at my office claiming that my killing is imminent. The letter advocates the cause of terror accused Sadhvi Pragya and those who are accused of killing the noted rationalist Dr. Narendra Dabholkar, the political activist from Maharashtra, Govind Pansare, the scholar, MM Kalburgi, and many other innocent Indians. It then pronounces my death sentence with the threat that it will be carried out soon,” Khetan said in his letter.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday expressed shock and urged Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to act in the matter.

"Extremely shocking. Ashish Khetan receives death threat. Hope Rajnath Singh ji will take action," Kejriwal tweeted on Saturday.

Ashish Khetan said that this not the first time he has received a death threat and that he had received a letter last year. “I had received a similar threat letter in July last year. I had then sent a complaint to Police Commissioner of Delhi. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a response,” Khetan said.

Meanwhile, Delhi police officials are claiming that they have not received any formal complaint.
