NEW DELHI: An electronic baggage tug used for carrying passenger luggage to aircrafts crashed into a Air India plane parked at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. According to the Air India, the incident happened on Saturday morning and an engine of the aircraft has been damaged badly. The plane that was scheduled to take off to Shanghai, departed with a delay of 45 minutes.
According to a senior officer, the incident took place around on Saturday around 11 am when the aircraft, a Boeing 787, was parked at the stand A10 at the airport, and was being prepared for takeoff. A baggage tug which was being used to transport luggage rammed into one of the engines of the aircraft.
The flight, AI-348 was scheduled to depart for Shanghai at 11.40 pm. The aircraft was inspected for any damage. An alternative aircraft was arranged and departed with a delay of 45 minutes.
Air India officials said that they are investigating the incident and confirmed that the employees handling the baggage tug have been de-rostered. DGCA has initiated an enquiry into the matter and sought a reply from ground handling team.
