NEW DELHI: While the Delhi High Court criticized the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for not making any progress in the case of missing Jawaharlal Nehru University student Najeeb Ahmed, his mother Fatima Nafees along with other students and activist protested at the Delhi High Court on Monday.

After sitting on protest at the CBI headquarters earlier, Fatima Nafees and members of JNU Student Union protested against the alleged mishandling of the case and behavior of the police at the High Court. The protestors alleged that the Delhi police beat up students and forcefully pushed them out of the court premises. Many of the protestors along with mother were detained by the police at the Tuglaq Road police station, soon they were released, a few students were injured as well.

“As the hearing over the case was going on at the court, a few of the students along with the bereaved mother were giving interviews to the media inside the court, which is when the police started misbehaving and pushing us” said Nadeem Khan one of the protestors.

Meanwhile, the court said the "There is complete lack of interest by the CBI," the court said while hearing the plea of Najeeb's mother, Fatima Nafees. The court added that there is no result - "not even on paper", a reference to the status report filed by CBI.

“Delhi police misbehaved with students, and Najeeb’s mother who is old and physically unwell by using words like you are not the only case we had. You are nothing to me”, said Mohit Pandey, Ex-President of JNU student Union.

Earlier, the High court had transferred the case to the CBI after expressing similar kind of displeasure from the side of Delhi police in investing the case. It has been a year since Ahmed went missing after a brawl with a few students at his hostel over hostel elections.
