NEW DELHI: A post-mortem of three sisters, who were found dead on Tuesday in east Delhi's Mandawali revealed that the deaths occurred due to starvation. The victims were aged two, four and eight.
According to the police, there were no injury marks on their bodies. The incident has prompted the Delhi government to order a magisterial enquiry. Deputy chief Minister Manish Sisodia reacted on the issue on Twitter.
"A Magisterial enquiry has been ordered into the incident of death of 3 girls at Mandavali. The family came as a guest at the tenant's house only two days back. The father of the girls who is a labor had gone to work before the incident and has not yet returned. Their mother is also mentally ill," he tweeted.
He is scheduled to visit the spot on Thursday. The victims' father Mangal, who is a rickshaw puller, was searching for a job as his rickshaw was robbed by criminals after they administered some intoxicant to him.
To add the miseries of the virtually starving family, the landlord identified as Kushal Mehra forced them to vacate the house. Mangal had reportedly left his house to search a job for himself as his children were crying out of hunger, a neighbour said. He has been missing since Tuesday.
Police are probing as to how the girls fell ill. Police said they are investigating the case from all angles, including the girls dying of malnourishment. Mangal's friend, who had accompanied the victims' mother to the hospital, told the police that the children were unwell.
