NEW DELHI: In a hit-and-run incident, the police on Thursday arrested a 24-year-old budding designer named Nupur Gupta after tracing and tracking three similar vehicles on the National Highway, said a Delhi Police official.

The woman was arrested for allegedly hitting another woman with her Mercedes car in east Delhi’s Anand Vihar area, the police said.“A PCR call was received at Anand Vihar Police Station on Feb 12 regarding a road accident in which a woman was injured after a car hit her from behind,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdra) Rohit Meena.

Akshita Aggarwal, the victim, who is also the complainant in the said matter, told the police that around 3:45pm, she along with her sister was waiting for a rickshaw when a car hit her from behind. She was a resident of Yojna Vihar. The victim sustained an injury in her left leg and was admitted to a nearby hospital.

Looking at the sensitivity of the matter, the police immediately lodged an FIR under sections 279 (rash driving) and 338  (causing grievous hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian penal code and began further investigation.

“During the course of the investigation, the police analysed more than 50 CCTV footage to trace the vehicle,” said a senior police official.“The offending vehicle, Mercedes Ben, was seized from Yojna Vihar, Delhi and the driver,  who was driving the car at the time of the incident was also arrested,” added DCP.
