NEW DELHI: A massive fire broke out at a factory early Saturday in northwest Delhi’s Bawana area, and the structure later collapsed following a blast, officials said. A Delhi Fire Service official stated that some plastic-related work used to be carried out at the factory.
Information regarding the fire was received at around 4:48 am from Sector-2, DSIDC Bawana. A total of 17 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the blaze. “The building collapsed due to some blast there,” the fire officials stated, adding that no injury was reported in the incident. They added that the cooling process is still underway at the factory.
Labourers residing near the factory reported that the intensity of the blast was so powerful that it caused the structure to collapse. “When we came out, we saw that fire had already engulfed the whole multi-storey building,” one of the workers said.
The rescue operation became more complicated when an explosion scattered debris across the area. The visuals from the site showed thick smoke billowing out of the structure. Firefighters were seen trying to control the blaze, while police and other rescue teams were also present at the spot.
In another fire incident, three people were injured after a fire broke out at a house in central Delhi’s Lahori Gate area. The incident occurred on Friday, and the fire department received information about the blaze at around 3:38 am. Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot at Farsh Khana, Lahori Gate on Shraddhanand Marg.
It was reported that the fire broke out in 15 electric meter boards on the ground floor of the house and also engulfed a bike, due to which three people sustained injuries. They were rushed to LNJP Hospital.
The injured have been identified as Anas (13); Nabi Ahmed (18) and Shahnavaz (30), the officials said.
