HYDERABAD: Humility personified. This is how Parvathy Omankuttan, the reigning beauty queen of India, comes across in her interaction with the Press. The world watched with bated breath sometime ago expecting her to be the next Miss World. But she missed out at the last minute and was crowned Miss World First Runner Up-2008. Did she get upset? “Not at all.
The adulation of fellow Indians at the pageant made up for all that. This is what I always wanted. In their eyes I was the winner,” beams the beauty, fielding a question from Expresso. In the City to attend a felicitation by the Fashion and Film Talent Association (FFTA) at Novotel, she said that the past one year had been hectic and shee needed a break.
“I worked hard for the last one year and am taking it easy for now. I have lots of plans for the next year and have been approached with movie offers. Life is full of surprises. And I am game for it,” she says.
Sharing a secret behind her glamour she testifies to the crucial part played by skin : “Don’t experiment with skin. It’s the skin which takes you a long way in the glamour industry.” And she adds with a playful laugh: “Genetics matters too.” This is obviously a reference to the good looks passed on by her parents.

“Whatever has happened over the last one year has been an exhilarating experience. The week-long safari we had in South Africa was among the most enjoyable times in my life,” she says.
Set to take a plunge into filmdom, probably next year, Parvathy counts Nagarjuna and Mahesh Babu among her favourite actors.
As for the city where she was crowned Miss India South last year, she says: “I have always been fascinated by the Charminar. I’ll see a few other places as well, besides relishing Hyderabadi food” Parvathy who always dreamt of making it big in the glamour industry and achieved it with the support of her parents signs off with the observation: “If you dream of something you have to have the courage to make it true.”
