HYDERABAD: Mahatma Gandhi’s great grandson Tushar Gandhi on Monday regretted that very few citizens now showed respect to the ideals of the Father of the Nation. Paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Bapu Ghat, he said that Mahatma’s strength lay in non-violence and that he would always supported any endeavour which promoted this method.

Tushar Gandhi decried the recent spate of violent attacks on women in Andhra Pradesh and in other parts of the country. He said it was essential to take the Gandhian principles to the common man to prevent such incidents.

He said he would encourage films which have non-violence as message.

Tushar Gandhi was in the city to release an audio of the film Mahatma being made by director Krishna Vamsi.

Answering queries, Tushar Gandhi said he felt he didn’t quite fit the role of a politician and the field was not for him.

He expressed his love for Hyderabadi biryani but steered clear of any controversial opinion regarding prohibition in the state of Gujarat.

“The choice of whether or not to consume liquor depends on the individual,” he said.
