A dismissed police constable and five priests were arrested for allegedly trying to sell land with forged documents.

The six had prepared fake documents of properties owned by Dr Jayaram of Himayathnagar and tried to dispose them of. However, the fraud came to light when a prospective buyer, with whom they tried to strike a deal for a two-acre site at Mangalagiri, contacted the doctor for details of the land.

According to police, a dismissed police constable, Sunil Babu, was a family friend of the doctor and used to frequent his house.

A few months back, he stole the doctor’s suitcase containing documents of his properties at various places like Abdullapurmet in the city, Vijayawada, Mangalagiri and Gangavaram. Later, Sunil Babu with his friends Shastri, Ramanamurthy and his son Phani Kumar, Praveen Kumar and Arun Tejaswi, all priests, prepared duplicate documents for the properties, transferred them in the name of Shastri and Ramanamurthy’s family members and put them on sale.

Following a complaint by the doctor, the police arrested the six members involved in the fraud.
