The first ever Refrigerated Container (REEFER) train, carrying high value and temperature sensitive pharmaceutical products was flagged off from Sanathnagar Inland Container Depot to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Mumbai for export here on Wednesday. The first service of the train carried seven refrigerated carriers.

SCR divisional railway manager Sushant Kumar Mishra inaugurated the container in the presence of chief general manager V Kalyana Rama and  group general manager of Container Corporation Of India Ltd (CONCOR), Sanathnagar depot, R. Dhananjayulu.

In order to attract more business, CONCOR created necessary  infrastructure like plug-in points at Inland Container Depot (ICD), Sanathnagar, high capacity diesel generator sets loaded in the train to ensure uninterrupted power supply for the REEFERS during their transit from Hyderabad to Mumbai, etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Mishra said that the refrigerated container freight services from Hyderabad will help boost export of pharmaceutical products from Hyderabad, expanding the pharma industries in and around Hyderabad and subsequently generating more employment. He added that the container corporation was free to fix its own fare.

V Kalyana Rama said that refrigerated container freight service would boost the transport of high value goods that need refrigeration. The number of refrigerated containers and the current weekly service will be increased depending on the demand, he added.
