Rs. 1 rice becomes Mana Biyyam

Chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy will launch the ‘Mana Biyyam’ scheme for Karimnagar, Warangal and Nalgonda districts at Lalitha Kala Toranam here on Wednesday.

The scheme is a revamped delivery of the Rs 1 per kg rice scheme for below-povertyline families.

Under the scheme, quality rice, as distinct from fine rice, procured from Andhra Pradesh will be distributed to people through fair price shops.

Mana Biyyam will be implemented on a pilot basis in seven districts and will later be extended to rest of AP.

As announced by the chief minister, beginning Ugadi, BPL families will get a basket of nine essential commodities from PDS outlets.

These include red gram, pamoleine oil, atta, wheat, iodised salt, sugar, chilli powder, tamarind and turmeric powder (100 gm).The cost of the basket would be Rs 185 against the market price of Rs 292.
