A Mumbai based e-retail store, Houseproud, is the brainchild of Sanvari Alagh Nair who was disappointed in her search for exclusive and svelte products. “There were several others like me who didn’t have an iota of knowledge about the availability of such decorative items,” shares Sanvari of her tryst which inspired the idea.
Initially working as a creative director for non-fiction and reality TV for over a decade, Sanvari decided to become an entrepreneur. “The home space was a passion for me and I decided to follow my heart,” she explains.
The interesting range available at Houseproud.in boasts of both homegrown and imported products. Their supply partners include The Charcoal Project by Sussanne Roshan, Hurtado, House of Ishatvam, Natuzzi, FCML India, Ezma, Earth to Fire and Loom Crafts Furniture. Barely a year-old, the e-retail shop has garnered around 5000 visitors per day. “We have successfully carved a niche with our kitchen and bar accessories,” professes the proud owner.
The online space however has plenty of competition. Sanvari though believes it isn’t the quantity that will keep the market afloat, but the quality. “I think it’s not a question of having many online stores because what we have is exceptionally unique. Our store has the best of what is available in the country.”
Kitchen Connoisseur
With newer cuisines making their way into our kitchens, the traditional tools of cooking are no more adequate. Houseproud.in has some impressive designs like the spaghetti measure, pasta tongs, the corn-cob-holder and many more to cater to a varied range of culinary interests and requirements.

Colours like beige and white are slowly getting replaced by lively pop colours. “A lot of people like red and green for kitchen collections,” the owner adds.
