GoM discusses need for law on Bangaru Talli

Express News Service

The need to bring in a legislation to provide legal immunity to Bangaru Talli, the programme announced by chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, was discussed at length at the maiden meeting of the Group of Ministers at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

The government had constituted the GoM with V Sunita Lakshma Reddy, J Geetha Reddy, DK Aruna, G Aruna Kumari, A Ramnarayana Reddy, P Satyanarayana, P Balaraju, E Pratap Reddy and Kondru Murali Mohan.

At a recent cabinet meeting panchayat raj minister K Jana Reddy and transport minister Botcha Satyanarayana raised the issue of Bangaru Talli with Jana Reddy saying that it would be better to give the entire amount in lumpsum to the beneficiary at the end of 20 years. It was decided that a GoM would be constituted to discuss the scheme and it would come up with its recommendations. Though the GoM was constituted, neither Jana Reddy nor Botcha Satyanarayana was made a member of it.

According to Sources, the suggestions made by Jana Reddy and also whether a legislation should be brought in or it would suffice to issue a Government Order were discussed. It was decided to have another round of meeting where the scheme and what needed to be done would be discussed at length. The next meeting is likely to be held on June 13 or 14.
