The onset of monsoons brings a respite from the scorching summers. To celebrate the elixir of life, ‘Waterscapes 2013’ – an exhibition of paintings and photography was inaugurated at The Muse Art Gallery, Hotel Marriott on Sunday.

The exhibition features works of six artists and 20 photographers including frames captured by Sudhir Shivaram, Kalyan Varma and Suheim Sheikh bring to perspective the need for conserving water and keep the circle of life flowing smoothly. Nearly 100 frames in mediums as diverse as watercolours, oil on canvas, ink on paper to acrylics depict water in varying moods.

The founder-president of The Yacht Club of Hyderabad, Suheim Sheikh wants Hussain Sagar restored to its former glory. “I’m a sailor and when I sail on Hussain Sagar during dawn, I see the lake in a wretched condition which saddens me,” he adds.

Echoing his thoughts, Chennai-based artist S Jayaraj talks of preventing the run-off during monsoons and maintaining ground water levels. “The water bodies today are contaminated beyond usage making people dependent on borewells, which are not safe,” adds the artist whose paintings are on display at the gallery.

The exhibition began on June 24 and will be on till July 7 from 11 am to 7 pm.
