HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad city police on Monday submitted status report to the High Court on the investigation being conducted into the killing of 11-year old Shaik Mustafauddin in Army Garrison campus at Mehdipatnam.
The young boy was succumbed to burns on Oct 8, and in his dying declaration, he had clearly stated that two Army personnel were directly involved in setting him ablaze. The report was placed before a division bench comprising chief justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and justice PV Sanjay Kumar which was dealing with a petition by Gulam Rabbani, an advocate of the city, seeking a direction to the Telangana state government to handover the case to the CBI for an impartial probe as the police till date not made any progress in the case.
According to Rabbani, who is the party-in-person in the case, the police, in the status report, stated that the SIT which is probing the case is focussing on six issues to elicit the truth and nab the culprits. As many as 70 Army personnel were questioned in connection with the case. B Appala Raju, who later allegedly committed suicide, was among the strong suspects as he gave conflicting versions during the questioning.
There are no witnesses at the scene of offence. All scientific methods were being adopted to probe the case in various angles.
After pursuing the report, the bench directed the ministry of defence to file their report and adjourned the case to Dec 15.
