Of all the beauty trends that have been populating social media websites, this one takes the cake. After the thigh gap, the bikini bridge, it is now turn of the finger trap test which has everyone putting their fingers to their lips.
How the finger trap test or the Beauty and Ugliness Identification Method works is you put your index finger to the tip of your nose and rest your hand at your chin, if your lips touch the finger, you are pretty, unfortunately if they don’t, then we
suggest you take the occurrence with a pinch of salt.
It all started with a Japanese meme which led to a selfie by Chinese actress Xinyi Zhang who said she didn’t pass the test. What followed after that was a barrage of selfies by fans mostly girls and a few guys each doing the test. Interestingly , everyone from Chinese generals to Korean pop stars are hooked on this fad.
The test is meant to be taken in jest according to website vocativ.com which first identified the phenomenon.
While it doesn’t have any scientific basis to it, it is loosely based on the 3:1 ratio that cosmetic surgeons use for testing facial symmetry line called the Rickett’s E-line. Currently it is trending in over 200,000 Weibo, (the Chinese equivalent of Facebook) discussions, largely among women.
