KURNOOL/HYDERABAD: Amway India CEO William Scott Pinckney, arrested on charges of selling illegal money circulation schemes, was on Tuesday produced before a local court in Kurnool district by the Andhra Pradesh Police. He was lodged in the Kadapa jail after the court remanded him in judicial custody for two weeks.

According to Kurnool SP K Raghurami Reddy, Pinckney was held in Gurgoan on Monday and brought to Kurnool on a transit warrant. A case under Section 420 of the IPC (cheating) and Sections 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act 1978 (PCMCS) was registered against him at the Two Town Police Station in Kurnool in August last following a complaint by an advocate Jagannatha Reddy. While Amway was named the prime accused, Pinckney was named the second accused in the case. Along with Pinckney, three others identified as Venkateswarlu, Vinay Kumar and Erranna also figured as accused for being the custodians of the local distribution centre. “We are searching for key representatives of Amway who supported the company management,” Reddy said.

This is the second time that the Amway India CEO has been taken into custody. He was arrested one year back by the Kerala Police along with two directors under the PCMCS. The State CID was the first to register a criminal case against Amway in 2006. Amway had then moved the High Court and subsequently, the Supreme Court in vain. The company said Tuesday it will cooperate with the cops.
