HYDERABAD: In a first of its kind incident, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has slapped a huge fine of Rs 8 lakh against one ‘Legend Constructions’ for illegally draining water onto the main roads from cellars of an under construction building on Road no 14 in Banjara Hills on Monday. A criminal case has also been lodged by GHMC authorities with Banjara Hills police station. Two electric motors of five HP were seized from the site by the GHMC staff.

GHMC Mayor, Bonthu Rammohan who was passing through Road no 14 late last night found huge amounts of water being let out from cellars on to the main roads inundating three main roads—Banjara Hills Road no 3, 14, and the police station road up to 2-3 feet.

He also directed the GHMC Town Planning wing to suspend the building permission given to the builder.
The dewatering from cellars on to the roads is damaging the roads and is also causing inconvenience to the road users, the mayor said.

Rammohan told Express that GHMC has taken the issue seriously against those people who are releasing water on to the roads. He said that stringent action will be taken against the erring builders and owners found releasing water on to the roads.
