HYDERABAD: If the ambitious Musi Riverfront Development Project is implemented on time, the river’s future is all set to be bright. However, numerous delays and change in governments and corresponding policies have muddled the details of the project.
What exactly is going to happen to Musi and areas around it? When the idea was first floated, HMDA envisioned the potential of riverbanks to create a new major east-to-west connection through the city.
As part this, two 20 m wide roads are to be constructed parallel to Musi. The roads would be a solution to the present traffic snarls. To clean the river, TS would adopt a South Korean technology. This was decided when Minister KT Rama Rao visited Cheonggyecheon river in South Korea and learnt about their river restoration project.
A major part of the project will have to be spent on clearing encroachments. In that regard, a drone-survey was done across the entire length of the river. When the project starts, the stretch from Puranapul to Chaderghat will be developed with cycle and walking tracks, landscapes and lighting.
