HYDERABAD: It was a 24-year-old techie, Tejaswi Podapati’s efforts in making her city clean that won the hearts of one and all at the LIVE Web launch of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new social welfare app — ‘Self4Society’.

The launch, which was broadcasted live across various tech zones like Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune, involved a virtual townhall interaction of PM Modi with techies and aspiring professionals from various tech schools across the country. From Hyderabad, it was Tejaswi who spoke to PM Modi.

“I hail from Ongole which had a very low hygiene and sanitation levels. But in 2015 when the Swachh Bharath Abhiyaan began, I decided to wield the broom and started my organisation with just 10 volunteers,” said Tejaswi, an IT professional from Tech Mahindra.

Her organisation, Bhoomi has done over 700 ‘spot-fixings’ in Ongole and over 70 ‘fixes’ in Hyderabad, winning praise across the board. The app launched by PM Modi as part of Digital India also stems from a similar moto.

“Our IT professionals are changing the world, but we want you all to make those changes in and around you, because the joy of being physically present and creating a direct change knows no bounds,” said PM explaining the idea behind creating the app.

Hailing Swach Bharath initiatives by techies like Tejaswi, PM added that IT Professionals must now concentrate and combine their efforts. “Our social initiatives are scattered and must be united.

The app aims to make corporate social responsibility more collaborative and meaningful,” the Prime Minister said.

‘Self4Society’ app, which can be downloaded from play store, allows techies to contribute to national and local causes, and also come together using the platform to fix an issue.
