HYDERABAD: More than 5,000 people from across Telangana took part in a centenary marathon at HMDA Grounds near IMAX on Sunday, marking 100 years of Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda.
Organised on the theme ‘Run for Faith, Run for Sewa’, the event featured 3K and 5K runs and a Family Walkathon, bringing together children, families and senior citizens.
The 3K runners headed towards People’s Plaza, while the 5K runners continued towards Jal Vihar. The event also featured a warm-up and Zumba session.
Founded in 1926, Central Gurudwara Sahib Gowliguda has served as a centre of spiritual, cultural and community activities for the Sikh community.
The centenary celebrations will include Akhand Path Sahib, Kirtan Darbar and Amrit Sanchar in September.
Prabhandak Committee Chairman S Rajender Singh and President S Trilok Singh said the marathon marked the beginning of year-long celebrations centred on faith, service and unity.
Winners received medals and gifts, while participants were given T-shirts and bronze medals. The HMDA Urban Forestry Wing also distributed free saplings to participants.
