KOCHI: Film producer S Pavamani, 78, passed away at a private hospital here on Tuesday. He was the founder general secretary of the All Kerala Film Distributors Association. He is survived by wife Sherly and children Prathap and Sheeba. Cameraman Jayanan Vincent is his son-in-law.

Pavamani entered the Malayalam film distribution arena in 1959. He began his career by distributing Hindi films in Kerala.

He had distributed over 200 films, of various languages, in the state on behalf of distribution companies, including Sheeba Films, Sithara, Navasakthi and Ajantha.

In 1972, he distributed his first movie in Malayalam, 'Chenda', directed by A Vincent. His companies distributed around 20 Malayalam movies, including the superhit Avalude Ravukal.

Pavamani began his own production company in 1975 under the banner Prathap Chitra. The first film 'Ayodhya' produced under Prathap Chitra was a superhit. Later, Pavamani produced 'Ayiram Janmangal', 'Aparadhi', 'Vilakkum Velichavum', 'Ponnum Poovum' and 'Kaliyil Alppam Karyam'.

Mohanlal starrer Uyarangalil, which was released in 1984, was the last movie produced by him.

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday here.
