The Kamal Hassan- Jayasudha film directed by N Shankaran Nair and released in 1975 had plenty of sensual scenes and was a popular hit of the time.
The new version of ‘Rasaleela’ is being helmed by Majeed Maranchery and new comers Dharshan and Prathishta will reprise the roles on Kamal and Jayasudha for the remake.
‘Rasaleela’ revolves around a young widow and a man who enters her life.
The story takes place at a prominent Brahmin house, Manakkal tharavad.
Krishnanunni, the only son of Dathan Namboothiri and Savithri Antharjanam is born with a strange horoscope.
According to astrologers if he ever gets married, he would die in the very wedding night.
His parents decide to take the risk and finds beautiful Unnimaya as the bride for their son.
But he dies as predicted by the astrologers.
Since Nampoothiri widows are unwelcome at their homes, Unnimaya stays back with her inlaws after her husband’s death.
Her husband’s father brings a priest to do remedial rituals for the curse.
During the rituals and offerings she gets acquainted with Devan, the priest’s assistant, and falls in love with him.
The screenplay is written by the director while Susheel Kumar cranks the camera.
The songs in the films are penned by Vayalar Sharatchandra Varma and composed by Sanjay Chaudhari, the son of legendary music director Salil Chaudhari.
The songs in the original were made by the fathers of these duo and were quite popular too.
Kalasala Babu, Narayanan Kutty, Anoop Chandran, Urmila Unni, Tony, Hari, Mini Arun and Mano Mohan are also part of the cast.
