Express News Service

Excise Minister K Babu inaugurated the web GIS-based land resources information system for Ernakulam district on Saturday.

The Minister said that one of the main reasons for the failure of schemes is inadequate technology.

“The schemes that are to be implemented should have a scientific base that could help in the  preservation of natural resources. The data compiled under the aegis of the Soil and Land Use Survey of India would definitely be an added advantage in implementing more schemes that require scientific explanation ,” he said.

The Minister released the soil exploration report of the district prepared by the Soil and Land Use Survey of India. P Rajeev MP released the data bank on natural resources in the district. The land resource information system was developed by the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Kerala. The system would help local bodies, researchers and planners to obtain a comprehensive view of land resources. District panchayat president Eldhose Kunnappillil presided over the function.
