KOCHI: The official Facebook page of anti-drug campaign ‘Addicted to life’ has gone viral on the internet, with 1.75 crore hits and 1.25 lakh likes.
The social media campaign, aimed at creating awareness on the evil of drug addiction with ‘like’ to life, was launched by the Excise Department and the Kerala State Beverages Corporation. The official page of the campaign, ‘www.facebook.com/getaddictedtolife’, was launched by the Chief Minister on August 6 by ‘liking’ the page from his own official Facebook page. So far, the number of netizens who liked the page is 1,38,548.
IT experts point out that it was the first time that a campaign for a social cause received so many likes in the initial days itself. According to statistics provided by Facebook, nearly 85 lakh users in the State have visited the official page of the campaign. The total number of visitors to the page from India and abroad is around 1.75 crore.
The ‘Addicted to Life’ special cover photo has also gone viral. Users can use their own images, along with the campaign poster. So far, nearly 60,000 Facebook users have used the cover photo, which can be changed by a user with the help of the link, ‘www.addictedtolife.in/cover’. Actor Mammootty is the brand ambassador of the campaign. Later, more actors came forward to take the campaign ahead. Their list include Innocent, Jayaram, Jayasurya, Dulquer Salman, Nivin Pauly, Fahad Fazil, Nazriya and Bhavana, Unni Mukundan.
“We would like to express our sincere thanks to those who liked the page, and helped us in making the campaign an instant hit. As much as 70 per cent of social media users in the State belong to the 13 -34 age group. The campaign mainly intends to create awareness among members of this group. We are really excited about the way in which the campaign is being accepted. This encourages us to intensify the anti-drug campaign the State is planning to carry out,” said Minister K Babu.
