Express News Service

KOZHIKODE: Ok, so what is the hottest trend in nail art today? It is the ‘ombre’ nails! Gone are the days of nail stickers, nail paint, nail art, monotone nail colours and French manicure. What you girls need to try out this season is a mixture of colours to create a delicious dual or multiple shaded nail colour. Now, what is an ombre effect?

In fashion term, ombre refers to graduation of colour combination. This term is quite common for garments which have a two-tone. For example, a shade of green which is darker on the top portion and a lighter on the bottom part. The ombre effect does not limit itself to garments, but the ombre effect hair style has been a hot trend like forever! The problem with ombre hairstyle here is that it might not go well with our skin tone, one needs to be very careful while choosing the colour here. However, the ombre effect nail is all over the place and is a must try.

Creating the perfect ombre nail is quite easy and will look absolutely chic if you choose the right combination.

How to get the ombre nail?

Get two nail colours, let us say a nude shade or a pink and dark shade of pink with some glitter. A clear nail paint. A toothpick and a sponge.

Shape your nails to your preference. Apply a thick coat of the lighter shade. Now, on a plain surface, pour a thick strip of the lighter shade and underneath it pour a thick strip of the darker shade. Now mix them with the toothpick. Dip a piece of the sponge into the mix and dab it on your nails. Once dried, top them off with a clear nail polish. Use an ear bud, dip it in a nail polish remover and clean the area around your nails to give it a neat look.

You can use your creativity and make your nails as colourful as possible. May be, add a sticker and give it a cute look. You can try out the same on your feet.

Here are some of the combinations to get the perfect ombre nails. Mint green and red, glittering golden and black, grey and black, any nude shade with neon colours, coral and teal, plum and grey, neon yellow and grey.

Where to flaunt them?

An evening out with friends, parties, family functions, festivals.

Where not to flaunt them?

Try to tone the overly colourful nail paint if you are planning to appear for a job interview.  Try to avoid the ombre nail if you are the bride.
