'Billion Trees Project' Phase Ii Launch Today

KOCHI: Malayalam writer Paul Zacharia will inaugurate the second phase of ‘Billion Trees Project’ promoted by Green Vein on Adattillam campus, Thrikkakara, on Saturday.

The organisers said they were planning to create a sacred grove on Adattillam campus in Thiruvonam Nagar. “We will sow 5,000 seeds of banyan trees for our Thrikkakara nursery as well. 

The Green Vein initiative promoted by Abheda Ganga Mayya Trust, Haridwar, aims to plant one billion trees in India.

Trees which suit the geography, habitat, culture and people will be selected for planting. During the first phase, Greenvein has planted more than one lakh saplings across different states in India. “In Kerala,we have planted around 50,000 saplings and have dedicated volunteers in each district. Our aim is to develop Greenvein into a self-sustainable project,” said the organisers.
