KOCHI: Research shows that the presence of Devadaru trees in Himalayas helps in preventing global warming. Because of it, the snow does not melt away. Taking this as a perfect example, the country should try to stick to this simple technique, said Dr Dileep Kumar, Medical Director, Ambuja Institute of Ayurvedic Research and Documentation, Udayamperoor.
He was addressing a seminar titled ‘Vrikshayurvedam’ organised by Kerala Vriksha - Paristhithi Samrakshana Samithi, the other day. He pointed out that the packets which were printed ‘Pathimukham’ are not original. “We have to propagate the importance of real ‘Pathimukham.’ To conserve trees, we should be aware of those flora that are enlisted as red list, adulterate and medical importance,” he pointed out.
He pointed out that propaganda which stresses teak and mahogany as the only trees should be prevented. “The role of mahogany in changing the pH value of soil is drastic,” he said. Seetharaman, KVPSS state president, Binu Kottayam, KVPSS state secretary, KVPSS Ernakulam district president and Jayaprakash Narayan, secretary, KVPSS Ernakulam district secretary also spoke.
