KOCHI: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday upheld the Prime Minister’s ‘Make In India’ campaign by exhorting the State Government to enhance the manufacturing sector here.
If non-resident Indians (NRIs) shift their investments to India, the country would become the richest in the world. Instead of investing in the foreign countries, primarily in the construction sector, they should invest in our country,” said the Minister.
“Kerala is blessed with natural resources and human resource. A large population of Keralites is living in the Middle East, who should return to the State and invest here. Malayalis have a key role to play in ensuring a stable national economy,” the Minister said while speaking at a function organised as a part of the launch of the website of the ‘Make in India - Make in Kerala’ campaign, here on Sunday.
“In Kerala, there are many opportunities to establish startup companies, for which the attitude of the stakeholders should change and political rivalries should end. Malayali businessman Yousuf Ali, who invested in the God’s Own Country itself, is the best example of entrepreneurial excellence,” he said.
The Make in India - Make in Kerala summit has been designed to facilitate investment, foster innovation, enhance skill development and build the best-in-class manufacturing infrastructure in India.
At the summit, which is scheduled to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kaloor, from July 23 to 25, around 20000 persons, including entrepreneurs from across the world, are expected participate.
Department of Industries and IT Principal Secretary P H Kurian; BJP state general secretary and secretary to the Society for the Integrity of Nation A N Radhakrishnan, Kinfra managing director C J Gopala Pillai; Swami Gururatnam Njanatapassi and Adv Anil Thomas also attended the function.
Residents submit plea to minister
The Rajanagari Union of Residents Associations (TRURA), Tripunithura, on Sunday submitted a petition before Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, demanding basic facilities at the Tripunithura railway station. In the petition, the residents sought steps to construct the third platform at the station; construct roof over the existing platforms; increase the number of ticket counters; renovate the toilet and canteen; and to arrange proper parking facility.They also demanded construction of a new railway line between Kalamassery and Tripunithura via Kakkanad, and launch of Guruvayur Express from Tripunithura. The petition was submitted by TRURA chairman V P Prasad, V C Jayachandran, Paul Manjooran and Viji Muralidharan. ENS
