KOCHI: The government will increase woman representation in the state police to five percent of the force’s total strength as part of the efforts to ensure woman and children’s safety, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Friday morning, after inaugurating the Pink Police Patrol project of Kerala Police at Durbar Hall.
“Compared to other states, our state tops in woman’s safety. But, atrocities against women are rampant here. Even infants and the elderly are victims of rape,” he said. He said studies showed only 75 percent of atrocities were reported. “Fear and public humiliation prevents many victims from seeking legal recourse. This should change. Our stand is to always back the victim. The Pink Police will seek to end the atrocities,” he added. Mayor Soumini Jain inaugurated a video presentation to introduce the patrol.
Former Rajya Sabha MP P Rajeev, ADGP B Sandhya, IG S Sreejith, City Police Commissioner M P Dinesh and DCP Dr Arul R B Krishna also attended the event.
