KOCHI: The court on Tuesday initiated revenue recovery proceedings to seize the vehicles of the Corporation Mayor and Deputy Mayor, in connection with a land acquisition case.  The action was taken on a petition filed by Thresiamma Alexander, whose land was acquired for development of Sahodaran Ayyappan Road. She moved the Ernakulam Sub Court after the Corporation failed to pay her `1.83 crore in compensation for the acquired land. Subsequently, she obtained a revenue recovery order.

The Mayor’s car was shifted from the Corporation office before the court officials arrived. Soon, the officials started  procedures to seize the Deputy Mayor’s vehicle. However, the Corporation authorities intervened and stopped the officials from taking away the vehicle, after consulting lawyers.   Meanwhile, the Opposition alleged that the Mayor did not take seriously the submissions made by them in the council for repaying debts related to land acquisition.

“A total of 33 cases are pending in connection with land acquisitions carried out for the Brahmapuram plant. Though the Corporation has a legal cell, it is not working effectively,” alleged Opposition councillor V P Chnadran.
