KOCHI: A stakeholders’ meet on the development of tuna fishing in Andaman and Nicobar(A&N) Islands organised by Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair and Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration will be held at the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) here on Saturday. 
The ocean waters surrounding Andaman and Nicobar Islands are rich in fishery resources with an estimated 1.48 lakh tonnes of exploitable resources. 

As per Fishery Survey of India estimates, the sea around Andaman and Nicobar Islands is rich in fisheries, especially tuna and tuna-like fishes, for which the projected exploitable potential is around 65,000 tonnes as against the current dismal figure of under 1,000 tonnes per annum.   

The meeting is envisaged to provide a platform to fisheries entrepreneurs to share their views and aspirations to invest in enterprises pertaining to tuna fishing industry in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and it's associated value addition to provide a congenial environment for the interested parties. 

The meeting will be chaired by  A&N Administration Chief Secretary Anindo Mazumdar.  Ramesh Verma, secretary (Fy), A and N Administration; directors and scientists from ICAR; CIFT; CMFRI; officers of Departments  of Fisheries and Industries;  A and N Administration and Fishery Survey of India.
