Minister dedicates ACAAR at Cusat

Dedicating the Advanced Centre for Atmospheric Radar Research at Cusat to the nation on Tuesday, Union Minister Harsh Vardhan urged youngsters to contribute to Indian science sector.

KOCHI:  Union Minister of Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday said the Stratosphere-Troposphere (ST) Radar facility at Cusat will help transform India into a leading country in weather-related research. He was speaking after dedicating the Advanced Centre for Atmospheric Radar Research (ACARR) at Cusat to the nation on Tuesday.

He urged the young generation to come up with scientific research projects influential among the common man. “The Union Government will encourage and facilitate such initiatives by extending all help, including financial assistance,” he said.

The Minister said the recently-launched ‘Jigyasa’, a student- scientist connect programme, will be implemented in Kerala too. V K Ebrahim Kunju MLA presided over the meeting. Cusat VC J Letha, Founder Chairman of the ST Radar Centre B M Reddy, Science Engineering Research Board adviser Rajeev Mahajan, Kalamassery Municipal Chairperson Jessy Peter, Cusat registrar David Peter and Radar Centre director Mohan Kumar spoke.

The minister who visited ACARR expressed satisfaction over the facility. Cusat is the first varsity in the country to set up ST Radar Centre. The facility was set up using `25 crore earmarked for the project by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
