KOCHI: A one-month-old baby, who was admitted to Lisie Hospital the other day with acute congenital heart disease, has undergone a six-hour-long surgery for ‘transposition of great arteries’.
The baby, who was in a critical condition, was brought from the Kozhikode Medical College to Lisie Hospital within three-and-a-half-hours on Thursday evening.

Since the baby had pneumonia, his surgery was slated to be held in two days. However, his condition worsened on Friday morning, following which he was subjected to ‘arterial switch’ procedure. According to hospital sources, the baby is still under critical care, and the doctors expect to remove the ventilator support within two days. The surgery, conducted under the ‘Hridyam’ project of the government, was performed by a team of expert doctors, including Dr Thomas Mathew and Dr Edwin Francis. The parents of the baby are natives of Tanur.
