THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shobha John, who became infamous with the Sabarimala Thanthri abduction case, has now the `credit’ of being the first woman in the state to be detained under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (Goonda Act).

District Collector Sanjay Kaul on Friday issued the order to detain Shobha John under the Goonda Act, considering a recommendation of the City Police. Shobha, who is an accused in the Althara Vineesh murder case, is now in judicial remand. Hence the order of the Collector could be executed only with the nod of the court, said police sources. Besides the Thanthri case and Althara Vineesh case, Sobha John is also involved in several criminal cases. The District Collector had also issued orders to detain one Murugan of Poonthura under the Goonda Act. Though the police had also recommended to the Collector to issue detention order against one Lalitha of Patoor, an order in this regard is yet to be issued.
