THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Association of Travel Agents has alleged of a strong lobby was trying to torpedo the move to shift the headquarters of Air India Express to Thiruvananthapuram.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, association president K.V Muraleedharan urged the State Government to press the Civil Aviation Ministry to shift the base of AIE to Thiruvananthapuram.  He also said that the travel agents were facing huge loss owing to massive  cancellation of Air India flights.

Though Thiruvananthapuram has many features ideal for setting up AIE headquarters,  a lobby, including senior officials of Air India was trying to retain the headquarters in Mumbai.  The massive cancellation of services from Kerala was also the result of the lobbying.

This was causing inconvenience to the passengers and hence the services should be restored with immediate effect, he said.
