Elderly 'couple' found dead

Express News Service

Two elderly persons, living together, were found dead with their throats slit at Pulivila, Uchakkada, near Vizhinjam, on Thursday morning.

The police identified the deceased as Divakaran, 75 and Treesamma 74. The bodies are approximately three days old.

Police said that though their throats were slit there was no evidence of anyone coming to the house in the past few days.

“Also it seems that nobody had enmity to them. There may be chance for one of them committing suicide after killing the other,” Vizhinjam Circle Inspector Stuart Keeler said.

Divakaran’s body was lying on the floor and that of Treesamma was found in a sitting position on a chair.

Divakaran, hailing from Venganoor, was living with Treesamma for the past several years after the death of her husband. Divakaran’s wife also had died earlier. Both had children in their first marriages.

The police are yet to confirm whether the couple are legally married or not.

Both of them were living alone in the house. It was the neighbours who informed their children when fowl smell emanated from the house.

It was Treesamma’s son, who first saw the bodies and informed the police.

The bodies are kept in the Medical College Hospital mortuary after post-mortem examination.
