Prospective voters can now include their names in the voters’ list through online registration, Chief Electoral Officer Nalini Netto said on Thursday.
The registration can be done using one’s own computer, internet cafes or through Akshaya Centres.
Discussions will be held with the government to decide on the fees for online registration at internet cafes and Akshaya Centres, Nalini Netto told a press conference here. The new arrangement will help reduce the mistakes that creep into the voters’ list since the voter himself is filling in the details, she said. The existing arrangement will continue for making corrections or deleting names from the list. Once the application is filed online, changes can be made in it during the next 48 hours.
