The performance began like the break of a new dawn with the sound of raindrops, of the birds and many early morning sounds clinging in the air. Guitarist John Antony and his band ‘Karnatriix’ mesmerised the audience with their fusion performance at the Nishagandhi open auditorium on Wednesday. The magic that was created by John’s ensemble rippled through the audience. The sounds produced were fresh and inspiring.

With John Antony on the  guitar, Faiyaz Khan on sarangi/vocals, Carola Grey from Germany on drums, Biju Paulose on keyboards, Naveen Kumar on bass and Sunil Kumar with the percussions, it was indeed a spellbinding performance. John Antony did not forget to give every single artiste their own individual space during the show.

The band was in sync with one another boosting and cheering each other’s performance.

Carola Grey seemed at ease amidst the group of men and in handling the drums. The group performed one of her compositions as well. Full of energy and verve she hit it off well with the audience and had them in her hands with her first hit on the drums.

Mainly an instrumental performance the Hindustani vocals in between by Faiyaz Khan added a good feel and gave a soothing effect to the whole performance.

The talented Sunil Kumar had many a percussion trick up his sleeve. He took the performance to a new level with his magic hands. While he gave a carnatic touch to the event with his mridangam, ghadam and vocals, he also reproduced sounds that resembled tribal African music with a different set of instruments. His hands worked like that of a magician doing so many things at once. On the whole for the city folks it was indeed a night to remember.
