THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It was a memorable and eventful day for the staff and faculty of Dr G R Public School, Neyyattinkara. A few days ahead of Gandhi Jayanthi, the educational institution founded by Dr G Ramachandran, a renowned social reformer and a soldier for the Gandhian cause, observed its 110th founder’s day. The school also celebrated its 24th annual day on the occasion with a slew of cultural programmes presented by the school students.
After a prayer song by primary school students, the event started in the Dr G R Hall of Culture with a classical dance performance presented by students from class I to V - a ‘pooja’ dance paying tributes to Lord Ganesh, Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. What followed was a colourful action song by the young kids featuring the treasure trove called nature. Over a dozen tiny tots spread across the stage, with a few ‘butterflies’ wearing frilly frocks sporting beautiful pairs of wings and elegant-looking sunflowers nestling side by side with trees swaying in the wind.
This was followed by a Hindi skit, again presented by primary school students. Focusing on a gluttonous lad desperate to have for himself rice breads specially cooked by his mother, the skit emphasised the importance of sharing.
The other cultural programmes which followed included a semi-classical dance, English drama, Malayalam musical drama, instrumental orchestra and folk dance.
Mahesh D Dharmadhikari, CBSE joint secretary and regional officer, Thiruvananthapuram, was the chief guest for the function and inaugurated the event. School principal Maria Joe Jagadeesh presented the school’s digital annual report. Dharmadhikari and managing trustee Sister Mythili distributed the endowment prizes to the students.
Among those present were senior principal Gouri Nayar, trust secretary Adv R S Harikumar, PTA president Satheesh Chandrakumar and Gandhiji lookalike Chacha Sivarajan. The event was held in a grand manner with the cultural events going on till 10 pm.
