A play is a cumulative retelling of our the experiences that make up our everyday lives, said veteran theatre person and poet Kavalam Narayana Panicker. He was speaking at the valedictory function of the three-day Nataka kalari at Vyloppilly Samskrithi Bhavan which concluded the other day. Rajeev Gopalakrishnan, Leela Panicker, Gigi Kalamandir, A T George MLA and others took part.
The improvised play developed by the participants was staged on the final day. It fused the theme of ecological concerns with a short story of Vaikkom Muhammed Basheer titled ‘Thenmavu’. Playwright and script writer Pramod Payyannur lead the direction of the improvised play.
‘Ottachilambu’, a one-man play based on Silappathikaram; and ‘Pulippennu’, which bagged a handful of awards at the Pravasi Amateur Drama Competition organised by Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi were staged.
