Chithra Selected for K P Udayabhanu Award

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The K P Udayabhanu Award for 2015 will be given to playback singer K S Chithra, K P Udayabhanu Foundation chairman Sivan said at a news conference here on Monday.

The award carries a cash prize of `25,000, a plaque and a citation.

The award ceremony will be held at VJT hall here on January 27. Noted artistes and cultural leaders will attend the function, said Sivan.

A jury comprising Sreeram and A Prabhakaran selected Chithra for the award.

After the award presentation, patriotic songs as well as an ‘Old is Gold’ programme will be presented by noted singers.

A dance portrayal of K P Udayabhanu’s songs will also be held during the function.

The occasion will also announce the opening of Udayaragam, a music school found and promoted by the Udayabhanu Foundation whose official inauguration will be in the first week of January at Sivan’s Studio near the Secretariat.

Foundation vice-chairman Rajeev Udayabhanu, secretary V K Mohanan,  general convener Kottukal Krishnakumar and joint secretary Radhakrishnan also attended the press meet.
