THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sri Ayya Mission Trust, an organisation propagating the yoga principles of Ayya Guru Swamkial, the Yoga guru of renaissance leaders Chattambi swamikal and Sree Narayana Guru, has requested the State Government and Thiruvananthapuram Corporation to hand over the Kannettumukku fish market land owned by the Corporation, for renovating the ‘Mahasamadhi’ of Ayya Guru adjacent to the Thycaud public crematorium.
In a memorandum submitted to the Mayor and the Chief Minister, Trust chairman G Ravi kumar said the ‘Mahasamadhi’ of Ayya Guru had the crematorium on the south and western sides. On the eastern side of the Samadhi, the Corporation’s fish market is located. The Trust chairman said the fish market was not only an impediment to the development of the Samadhi but also improper to be in the vicinity of the crematorium and Samadhi.
He requested the Mayor and the Chief Minister to consider the shifting of the fish market. He pointed out that the Lok Ayuktha court and Munsiff court had directed to shift the fish market. Ayya Mission Trust is planning to renovate the Samadhi. But it has faced with scarcity of land required for the development. In view of this, the Trust is requesting the government and Corporation to shift the fish market.Ayya Guru who had been the manager of the British Residency during the the period between 1873 and 1909 under the princely state of Travancore, had also been known as the spiritual teacher of Ayilyam Thirunal Maharaja and Karthika Thirunal, the erstwhile ruler of Travancrore. It was the Travancore royal family which stepped into construct the Mahaamadhi mandap at Thycaud following the death of Guru in 1909.
Formed by Ayya Guru’s elder son Lokanathapillai and younger son and Avadhootha guru Pazhanivel, the Sri Ayya Guru Mission Trust has trustees like Travancore royal family, Panmana Ashram, Sivagiri Mutt, and Kulathoor Ashram.
