THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala University Syndicate has decided to allow private registration for BCom (Finance), BCom (Cooperation) and BA (Sociology) courses from the current academic year onwards.
The Syndicate also decided to approve the appointment of 133 teachers in various aided colleges affiliated to the university. A total of 138 vacancies of computer assistants will be reported to the PSC. The Syndicate termed as baseless reports that contract employees working in various self-financing institutions of the university will be terminated.
Employees of Calicut University will also be considered for inter-university transfer. The Syndicate also decided to reconstitute its sub-committees by including more members.
Academic decisions
As many as 75 scholars will be awarded PhD in various subjects. The Syndicate also decided to appoint Dr Preetha Nair as Reader in Archaeology Department and promote Dr Ajith Kumar as professor.
University students union former chairman Aneesh M S has been asked to reappear for examinations from second semester onwards following allegations that excess marks were awarded to him in the internal examinations.
Syndicate-VC tussle
There were heated exchanges between Left-affiliated Syndicate members and Vice-Chancellor P K Radhakrishnan over the latter’s move to appoint officers, lower in rank to Syndicate members, as heads of various sub-committees, in the absence of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor. UDF-backed Syndicate member B S Jyothikumar flayed the Vice-Chancellor for issuing a press release which allegedly insulted the Syndicate members.
